Aaron Michael Zaragoza was born on July 9, 1986 in Palo Alto, CA. Born a native son of the San Francisco Bay Area, he grew up among a sea of cultures and diversity. He attended John F. Kennedy Multi-Media Magnet High School in Fremont, CA. It was here where Aaron’s love of film would flourish and grow into a lifelong dream. Surrounded by the necessary resources and his own creativity, he delved into the world of music videos and short film creation. His brand name, Oh Amsterdam Entertainment, was born here. He credits his complete devotion to a career in film after an injury on the high school basketball court. Here he was able to assimilate the leadership and collaborative skills he learned by being on the basketball team and apply them to his projects.
In 2004, Aaron graduated high school and moved to San Francisco, CA where he attended San Francisco State University. Here he landed an internship position at the San Francisco Film Arts Foundation where he began to understand the indie film-making process and learned the fundamentals behind film budgeting. He began to work on projects with fellow classmates and even found early success when two of the six short films he produced and directed became film festival award winners. His most notable project to date, “Flight to Sinai,” went on to the Fort Worth Film Festival, Rhode Island, Kansas Tall Roots, and Long Island International Film Festivals along with the San Francisco International LGBT Frameline. He even dipped his toes into an acting role in his colleague HP Mendoza’s “Fruit Fly,” which premiered at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival and went on to more than 20 film festivals across the United States.
Aaron earned his B.A., Fine Arts in Cinema Production in the summer of 2008. Eager to begin to implement his education and ideas into the film industry, he left his native San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Los Angeles, CA. He began an internship with the reality department at Lifetime, where he worked on the pre-production stage of the hit show Project Runway. At the same time, he also worked as an assistant director on Sage Stallone’s upcoming, untitled feature film. From there, he was granted the opportunity of working as a production assistant on his first feature film, the remake of the classic 1980’s drama, FAME. He was able to work closely with the film’s director, Kevin Tencheron and with the likes of many up and coming actors. Aaron also directed viral web videos for FAME and Lakeshore Entertainment, which helped with the film’s promotion. Some of his other projects have included producing and directing dance videos, where he was able to work with some of the most successful dance professionals in the industry, such as Marguerite Derricks, Kherington Payne, Mallauri Esquibel, Nick Lanzisera, Nick Demoura, Jason Williams, Anthony Carr, Jared Murillo, Asher Book, Walter Perez and Kevin Tancharoen.
Currently, Aaron along with some of the cast from Fame, are working on a mini-web series with hopes of pitching it to a major television network. He is also working as a production assistant on the set of two of ABC’s most successful primetime shows, Cougar Town and Scrubs.
